Stroke

Ultasound scanning of the carotid arteries is the single best predictor of stroke and heart disease.  Stroke remains the 3rd leading cause of death in the US.  Strokes are a devastating disease that occur in 700, 000 Americans a year, taking the lives of about 160,000 of those stricken and leaving many more with long term mental and physical disabilities.  The good news is if identified early, up to 80% of strokes can be prevented!  The carotid arteries are the large blood vessels on either side of the neck that supply blood to the face and brain.  You'll lay face-up on an exam table.  We apply acoustic gel to an ultrasound transducer.  We run the transducer along the neck to take measurements and pictures of each artery.
